The Winding Path to Where I Belong

When I first imagined my career, I pictured myself as a wildlife technician spending my days in the field, collecting data, and working hands-on to help protect our natural world. That was the goal.

Life, however, had other plans. I became a journalist. For years, I told human stories, listening, observing, and learning how to connect people through words. I managed teams of journalists. We won some pretty big national awards. I didn’t know it then, but those years were quietly preparing me for something bigger. More soul-filling.

Eventually, I found myself behind a camera, blending my love of nature with my instinct for storytelling. For more than a decade now, I’ve been making conservation films. it has been gatutude-filled journey listening to the land, following the calls of wildlife, and sharing the quiet, often unseen moments that remind us what’s at stake.

Looking back, I see the thread that connects it all. I may not have become a wildlife technician in the traditional sense, but I still work in the field, still witness the wonders of the natural world. Only now I do it through a lens.

I’m grateful for the twists and turns that brought me here. I’m grateful for the chance to spend my days doing work that feels true to my heart. And I’m grateful for the reminder that sometimes, the path to where you belong isn’t the one you expected. It’s the one you grow into along the way.
